THE chief coroner will investigate the actions of a motorist and police after a handcuffed teenager was run over as he lay on the road in Ipswich.Coroner Michael Barnes today opened hearings into the death of 16-year-old Andrew John Bornen - who was killed after being struck by a car while lying on a busy Ipswich road about 11pm on February 7 last year .
Police, at the time of the incident, said they responded to reports of a man wielding a machete when they came upon an ``obviously aggressive'', but unarmed youth
As he lay face-down and handcuffed on Albion St, police allegedly tried to flag down an approaching car but the vehicle, driven by a young woman, failed to stop and struck the teenager.
He suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead at Ipswich General Hospital.
Queensland Police Deputy Commission Deputy Commissioner Ian Stewart has said Andrew voluntarily lay on the road, without direction, when he was confronted with a Taser.
